Our History
It began in 1968 when Don Goede, Jr. assumed, what he thought would be, an interim position delivering flowers for Scotty’s Flowers and Gifts in the Skyway Plaza Shopping Center at 820 Arcturus Drive in Colorado Springs, Colorado. When the business became available for sale Don gained Don and Gloria Goede, Sr.’s interest in buying it and the Goede family assumed ownership and day-to-day operation on December 1, 1970.
After acquiring the flower shop the Goedes pioneered retail flower sales in the four existing, local hospital gift shops and established flower shops at Ft. Carson, Peterson Air Force Base and the United States Air force Academy. At one time there was a retail plant stand manufacturing business and a drive-through flower shop named The Blooming Caboose. Last, but certainly not least, Skyway Greenery was developed to offer interior foliage plant sales, installation and guaranteed maintenance to commercial and residential customers through-out Colorado Springs and, for a while, in Denver, Pueblo and Canon City.
From the location in Skyway Plaza the Goedes moved the business to 1515 South 8th Street and, then, to 1407 South 8th Street where it resides today. SKYWAY CREATIONS, Flower Shop, as it is known today is a full service floral business with a strong emphasis in wedding and special event services. SKYWAY GREENERY remains one of the larger businesses of its type in the State of Colorado.
For many years Don and Gloria Goede, Sr. worked alongside Don, Jr. helping the business grow. Mary McKnight, now General Manager, has been working with the Goedes since 1970 and has been extremely instrumental in the overall success of the company. As their family grew up, Don Jr.’s wife, Lori, involved herself more and more in the flower business and today is an intricate part of the company as a driving force in wedding and special event planning.
We have built our successful business with the dedication of many great employees and the loyalty of many wonderful customers.
